I Met the Walrus

I think this is a new type of animation. It used the animated elements and visual affects to represent a real interview’s recording. The animation followed the contents of the interview and created more and more characters or other stuffs. It is a very detailed animation work. For example, when the audio said, “fat”, the person just got fat immediately. When the audio said, “smile”, there is a smile face just appeared on the picture. They used a lot of very slim lines to construct the characters and the story line. The frames changed very fast. I need to very focus and then can catch every single element of this work. I think the construction of this animation is very good. It always changes. You will not feel boring when you watch this work. The whole story seemed very vivid and vibrant. When I watched the video, it helped me to understand the contents of this interview. The animation gave this interview recording the second life.

Creep animation from Low Morale

I think this is a very strong personal style animation work. It used very simple lines but created a very detailed and exquisite world. It didn’t show the whole environment in the beginning. The story developed by the growth of the lines. There are various elements in this animation work. The story ended with the disappearance of the lines. I really like this ending. It balanced to the beginning of the story. The main colors of this animation are black and grey. It made me feel sad and depressing. The main character in this animation work was singing the background song. It also made feel like this is a music video.

Jan Svankmajer: Dimensions of Dialogue Part 2

I think this is a really amazing and artistic animation work. It has very strong and vivid personal style in this animation work. The main characters of this animation work are the clay statues. I can feel very strong personalities and passions from these statues when I watched this video. They were not only the clay statues; they have their own soul and thoughts in this video. In the first story, the changes of the clay statues’ face expressions and body motions are very vivid and amazing. For the second story, they also used various real tools, such as toothpaste, pencil, bread, and knife to emphasize the storyline and the idea of the story. The sound effect is also amazing in this video. It gave this video more vitality. It is not only a work of animation, also a work of art.

Norman McLaren - Neighbours (1952)

I think this is a very interesting animation work. It combined the animated work and the real people and environment. Even though there were the real characters in this video, they still used animated elements on those characters. It made the video more interesting and novel. There is no conversation in this story. They only used their body language and the sound effect to convey the storyline of this video. Therefore, I think the background music and sound effect are also very helpful in this video. I think a good animation work is not only narrating a story, also representing the principle of life.
